I'm sure this has been asked before, but whatever. The question is simple: In your opinion, what is the best shifter?
While I am a GM person, in my opinion, nothing can beat Mopar's pistol grip shifter. Its just so damn cool.
So, Oppo, what's your favorite?

Honda makes some of the smoothest mannies out there.
Though I don't understand why they gave the passenger the shifter.

Oh man, nothing beats the Huayra shifter. That thing is majestic as fuck.

I've no idea what they were like to actually SHIFT and probably will never get the chance to find out, but they sure are pretty.

Since Aya already posted a Spyker shifter, I'll go with Pagani, even though it's not Manuel.

Ooooooh. While I'm not a Honda person, that looks mighty fine.

That's a Spyker.
Huayra's gear shifter is a bit.. too busy for my taste.

I'm not sure why, but I've always thought that shifter looked odd. I'm sure its very nice to use, it just looks odd to me.
![]() 03/09/2015 at 21:28 |

No, that's just cooler.

You have a very good point.

Note the rotary inspired cap and shape. Also, the flat front side makes it awesome to just grab n' slam another gear. Just as well, the throw itself was pretty good from the factory.

Can confirm, super short and crisp. Better than an FRS, IMO.

Chevy column shifters work great for J-turns in a wet parking lot. Man, I miss driving the EMS Tahoe! haha

Even though I'm not a BMW guy in particular, you just can't beat the shifter. Just so ergonomic. < Just realized this is the first time I've ever written this word down.

![]() 03/09/2015 at 22:49 |

It is very pretty, no doubt. I always thought it looked out of place in the Carrera GT, though.

I could make this dirty.
It gotta have a good smooth pull.
It has to be something you like to manhandle from time to time.
It can't be too difficult for other people to use.
It has to have a firm feel and not sloppy and limp.
A good shifter will give you great pleasure to use many times.
Yeah I'm done
![]() 03/09/2015 at 22:50 |

Indeed. I figured best feeling would be a bit harder, since everyone would have different experiences.

Oh my God yes. Do want.
![]() 03/09/2015 at 22:52 |

Oh, for sure. Not much can beat the classic looks of a gated shifter.
![]() 03/09/2015 at 22:54 |

I've always found it to be a bit too busy for my liking, but I guess it fits the batshit-crazy nature of the car, so its pretty cool.
![]() 03/09/2015 at 23:15 |

Heck yes. These have always been awesome looking.
On a side note, how is that shifter while driving? I could never decide if it would be annoying or convenient.

anything of roughly billiard ball size and shape, is going to be awesome, that wooden knob is amazing.

The Spaceball will always be cool to me! Such a simple and nice-looking design.

Can't beat the classics, for sure.

Yeah, agreed. They just look so clean and simple.

It's not the best shifter, but it is one of the coolest.

Mmm, yes. Gotta love the Pantera.
![]() 03/09/2015 at 23:29 |

The best OEM I've had is the Integra GSR, comfy shape, nice leather, and a clean crisp mechanism.
But I'm always happy with a classic pool ball knob

Sorry but it didn't.
The '69 Hurst Olds you have pictured came with this...

I thought it looked modern. That's what I get for Googling "70 Hurst Olds Shifter".
Thanks for the correction

it feels pretty natural actually, its real smooth and open so you can just throw it into gear no problem
it does have a long throw though
